Split Rock at Horeb

When Moses struck the rock, water
sufficient for
a million people
poured forth!

One of the most significant discoveries at the Mount Sinai site is the Split Rock at Horeb that provided water for the Hebrews.

The rock is an impressive landmark, resting on top of a mound which is approximately 100 feet high. The rock itself is a huge boulder approximately 60 feet high and split down the middle with an opening large enough for a man to walk through.

Of great significance is the fact that on both sides of the rock there are obvious marks of water erosion. There are also what appear to be man-made channels running from the rock to where the Hebrews would have camped. The amount of water required to sustain all of the people plus their flocks of animals would have been absolutely enormous. Who would have thought that water could gush forth from a rock in the desert? But the testimony of the area bears record that the God of miracles sustained His people in a miraculous way.

The Real Mt. Sinai is Located in Saudi Arabia!

P8-Sinai1

The Bedouins called this mountain Jebel el Lawz. It stands there in stark contrast to the other mountains in the area — scortched black on the top. The Scriptures described the time when Moses ascended to the top of the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments — “And Mount Sinai was altogether in a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.”  Exodus 19:18

Explorer Ron Wyatt knew that locating the Red Sea Crossing site was the first step in finding the real Mt. Sinai. In 1984, after the underwater chariot wheels were found, Wyatt and his two sons secretly entered Saudi Arabia.

Wyatt knew that the traditional site, located in the Sinai Peninsula, could not be the authentic mountain because Galatians 4:25 declares that — “…Mount Sinai [is] in Arabia.” The ancient land of Midian is where Moses had fled from Pharaoh, and the land of Midian was in Arabia, not in the Sinai Peninsula.

In addition to the charred and melted mountain top, Wyatt found numerous artifacts that proved beyond a doubt that this was the encampment site of the Hebrews where God gave them the Law.

Remains of twelve handcrafted pillars Moses erected for the twelve tribes of Israel.

The encampment was a massive area that could have easily accommodated a million or more people. A large number of rocks placed in circular patterns are thought to mark actual tent locations.

Beginning in 1992, Jim and Penny Caldwell were living and working in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and visited the famed mountain with their children fourteen times.

Quite by “coincidence” they had seen a hand-drawn map by Ron Wyatt when they were visiting Nuweiba Beach and that led them to their first of many ventures to the “Mountain of God.”

The Caldwells have a web site at www.jimandpenny.com which details many of their adventures.

What appears to be an altar area has been found at the Mt. Sinai site in Saudi Arabia, the ancient land of Midian. Evidence abounds that this was an area where many animals were sacrificed.

It should be noted that there is absolutely no evidence of an encampment or other artifacts at the traditional Mt. Sinai desert. Sometimes we assume things because someone makes a wild guess or writes a name on a map. The fact is, the real Mount Sinai is in Saudi Arabia.

Moses Was Trapped Between the Mountains and the Red Sea!

Coral-encrusted chariot wheels litter the bottom of the Red Sea identifying the site of the Exodus where Moses was delivered and Pharaoh’s army was destroyed.

The discovery of chariot wheels! What an incredible confirmation of the Biblical account of the Exodus!

Pharaoh was convinced that Moses had made a critical blunder. Instead of going around the northern tip of the Red Sea to freedom, Moses suddenly turned and led his people into the Wadi Watir which is a narrow canyon that winds down to the water’s edge of the Red Sea.

At the end of the canyon was a huge beach, now a resort area called Nuweiba Beach. To the Hebrews seeking to escape from Egypt, it seemed like a death trap. Mountains to the south came right down to the water, and an Egyptian fort blocked any escape to the north.

Pharaoh’s army pursued thinking that an easy massacre was just hours away. They were right. But Pharaoh and his commanders had no way of knowing they would be the ones destroyed by walls of water that loomed up nearly 900 feet on either side of them.

Today the remnants of Pharaoh’s chariots and army still litter the bottom of the Gulf of Aqaba like an ancient junk yard.

Numerous chariot axles and wheels are found at the bottom of the Red Sea

The Gulf of Aqaba is very deep, reaching to depths of nearly 5,000 feet. The underwater terrain resembles the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona with steep drop-offs near the shorelines. Crossing the Red Sea at most spots would be absolutely impossible for a group of freedom seekers numbering one million or more, even if all the water dried up.

But at the end of Nuweiba Beach, the land slopes gently away at a 6 percent slope as it crosses the 8-mile wide gulf. This underwater roadway, approximately 200 yards wide, descends to a depth of 900 feet before it gently ascends again to the Saudi Arabian side, the ancient land of Midian where Moses had lived for 40 years in exile. This remarkable underwater roadway was the path of life and freedom for the people of Israel, but for Pharaoh and his army it was the pathway of destruction.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

A highly respected researcher and marine biologist from Sweden by the name of Lennart Moller did extensive investigations at the Red Sea crossing site off the shores of Nuweiba Beach. He has authored a book entitled “The Exodus Case” and has concluded that this is definitely the site where the armies of Egypt met their doom.

Dr. Moller verified the finding of numerous horse and human bones — “Finally, the actual site of the Red Sea crossing has been shown to have a number of marine archeological remains, from some sort of disaster. This disaster included a large number of animals, horses, human beings, chariots and wheels, which are lying on the seabed of the underwater bridge. Some skeletal parts are petrified which implies that the event took place several thousand years ago. The finds are scattered over a wide area, from the west side (the coast of the Sinai Peninsula) to the east side (the coast of northwest Saudi Arabia) and imply a very extensive disaster. Altogether, these finds give a picture of a disaster that probably occurred at the time of what the Bible calls the Exodus.” (The Exodus Case, page 229)

P7-Moses3

The deep canyon sides of the Wadi Watir would have prevented Moses and his followers from escaping from the pursuing armies of Pharaoh. Scripture calls the area “Pi-Hahiroth” which means “the mouth of the gorges.”

With the mountains on the sides and the Red Sea before them, the Hebrews were trapped when the Egyptian army closed the way of escape behind them.

No one would have dreamed that one of the greatest miracles of all time was about to free the slaves and destroy their taskmasters.

When I Say, “I Am A Christian”!

kneeling in prayer sunset

When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I’m not shouting ‘I’m clean livin’.
I’m whispering ‘I was lost,
Now I’m found and forgiven.’

“When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

“When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak
And need His strength to carry on.

“When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

“When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

“When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

“When I say… ‘I am a Christian’
I’m not holier than thou,
I’m just a simple sinner
Who received God’s good grace, somehow!”

Egyptian Chariot Wheels Discovered in the Red Sea!

Nuweiba Beach, Egypt

40 miles south of Eilat, Israel, on the western shore of the Gulf of Aqaba is a huge sandy beach and peninsula that researchers have now verified as the Red Sea crossing site where Moses and the people of Israel escaped the wrath of the Pharaoh of Egypt.

The site was first identified by a Biblical archeological explorer named Ron Wyatt after he flew over the area in a small private airplane in 1978. Wyatt reasoned that evidence should still exist at the Red Sea crossing site where God miraculously separated the waters and delivered His people from Egypt.

Wyatt's first evidence was the discovery of a large stone column lying in the water. Wyatt's first evidence was the discovery of a large stone column lying in the water.

Later, on the eastern shore of the Red Sea, opposite Nuweiba Beach, Wyatt found a matching column with an inscription that could still be read. It was erected by King Solomon as a memorial to the Great God of Israel Who delivered His people from the armies of Egypt.

Wyatt also began to find evidence of Chariot wheels underwater. They had been preserved by coral that had attached themselves to the four-, six- and eight-spoked wheels which were typical of the wheels used in the 18th Dynasty. He recovered the hub of a wheel with the remains of eight spokes and gave this significant find to Nassif Mohammed Hassan, Director of Antiquities in Cairo. Mr. Hassan immediately identified the artifact as a chariot wheel dating 3500 years ago during the 18th Dynasty, the only time the ancient Egyptians used an eight spoked wheel.

Repeated dives by Wyatt and his two sons, over a stretch of nearly two miles, revealed that chariot parts literally littered the area.

It is estimated that Pharaoh’s army of nearly 250,000 soldiers was totally destroyed while Moses and his unarmed Hebrew nation were miraculously delivered as recorded in the Bible.

“And the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came to the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore.”              Exodus 14:28-30

One of the four-spoked chariot wheels was covered with gold. It was too fragile to try to remove but the photo clearly shows the circular rim of the ancient wheel, spokes and even the hub!

The Exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt through the Red Sea occurred at Nuweiba Beach, 40 miles south of Eilat, Israel.
