I find that there are many Christians out there that have a head full of information about the Bible, but don’t know how to put in order of what the Bible has to say. They need a leader to instruct them in which order that information needs to be placed.
I give you Exhibit A (taken directly from a facebook post, word for word), see if you can figure out what is wrong with this:
“God loves us all but hates sin. Not man Himself but the sin in the man. God ceated man in HIS image and in HIS likeness. So for one to say HE hates us would be to say HE hates HIMSELF. Look in the mirror and dont forget who you are.Ive been in the presence of GOD and ive been in the presence o the Lord. In that GOD showed me HIS love for us. But showed me HIS justice. I could not stand in HIS presence it was unbearable! i begged HIM away. why? Because of sin. Thats where Jesus comes in. Jesus lived the life we could not and HIS reward and desire is for us. HE stands in on our behalf to GOD making a way of redemption back to GOD who judges without partiality. The most vital thing for a man to do before his last breath is to find the LORD! to call on HIS name whole heartedly. because the Day is coming when the GOD who Loves all will have to judge all.”
And the same person goes on to say:
“GOD is just and will Judge each one accordingly to our works. HE cant say I like you so your spared to one and I dont like you im holding you accountable for all to another. NO that’s unjust! Thank GOD for Jesus! For He who breaks even the smallest of the law is guilty of all! For all have sinned and came short of the Glory of GOD. And for the wages of sin Death is paid. But the gift of GOD is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Has GOD divinley showed me things? or is my sugar low? real funny. The bible says in jeremiah 33:3 call to me and i will answer you and show you great and mighty things! what GOD has done for one he’ll do for all. GOD is no respector of persons. one man is not greater than another we are all human. And if He’s called you then your not greater just chosen. some vessels are for honor and others dishonor. HE chooses. To answer your queston yes He’s showed me alot and taken me places many mock me for. Ive left this body and have seen many things far from earth and He’s showed me things to come some which have already taken place. Does that make me special? NO! Hit your knees and pray fervently and get your answers from HIM and not a man! HE showed the prophets HE sjowed the disciples. AND HE’LL SHOW YOU!”
Wow! It seems that this person really knows his Bible and can quote it accurately – or does it?
Mind you that this quote is genuinely from a comment thread from a group that I will not mention. I didn’t change a thing about the post including spelling, punctuation or capitalization, if you couldn’t tell. The original statement that started all of this was making a statement that God did not have any feelings. This post is not dealing with that subject at this time. It is merely to give an example of someone that thinks that they know all about the Bible, God and Christianity. Keep in mind that I am not claiming to know it all either. I do know that if I’m going to make a claim, I will be able to back it up using the Bible. This quote is misquoting the Bible in this case and obviously being used incorrectly (reference to Jeremiah 33:3).
Where I can admire the zeal of this person and the determination in which he speaks and he might have been taught in the manner in which he speaks – faulting the teacher. My point is that when someone is trying to make a Biblical statement, whether it is a verse or a concept, it needs to be accurate. If you don’t know if it is accurate or not – don’t say it until you do! It is so much easier to say the right thing in the first place than to have to dig yourself out of the hole that you just put yourself in by making that statement.
I Timothy 2: 15 — “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
I Peter 3: 15 — “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
Colossians 4: 6 — “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Interestingly enough, as I went back to get more quotes from this person, I found that all posts from him to that thread had been deleted. Better for him…
Use this as an example to make sure that you can correctly back up your statements of Bible theory from the Bible.
