Why Would YOU Want To Be A Christian?

Wow, what a question.  Have you ever considered why you or anyone else would want to be a Christian? If you were to ask that to 100 people, you would probably get 100 different answers.

I think that God, or Christianity of some sort, has a different appeal to everybody but ultimately, when the answers are sifted out, you come down to the basic reason of Good nature versus Bad nature.

On the Good Side, most people’s image of Christianity says:

  • If you are at the lowest that you think you can get, Christianity can make everything better for you.
  • If you are having problems, regardless what they are, God can make things all better.
  • If you have poor health, Jesus will heal you – just like He did in the Bible.
  • I want to be rich and Christians say that if you are walking closely with God then He will let you have anything you want.
  • I want to see my deceased loved ones.
  • And the list could go on for a long time.

When in actuality, God, in His Word, The Holy Bible, says:

Come unto me all you who are weary
and I will give you rest.

-Matthew 11:28-30

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen,
nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

-1 Corinthians 2:9

2In my Father’s house are many mansions:
if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.

-John 14:2-3

4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow,
nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain:
for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said,
Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me,
Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

-Revelation 21:4-5

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him
shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him
shall be in him a well of water springing up
into everlasting life.

-John 4:14

13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep,
that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord,
that we which are alive and remain
unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God:
and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
-1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Christ transforms the Christians

Yet, on the Bad Side, people would say about Christianity:

  • “There really is no hell.”
  • “If God is real, He is very loving and would never send anyone to hell.”
  • “Christianity is nothing but a bunch of rules that if you break them you go to hell.  There is no way to keep them all so why try?”
  • “The God I know of from the Bible is not loving at all, in fact He is very angry and vengeful. Why would I want to spend eternity with a God that caused the whole earth to be flooded and He chose to make total nations be slaughtered by His people?”
  • “I’m having too much fun doing the things that the Bible says are wrong.”
  • “I believe that when we die we don’t go anywhere – there is no eternity – we just cease to exist.”
  • “I believe that hell is the bad stuff that we go through while we are on earth and when we die, God lets us all go to heaven.  If we are really good, we get really nice things when we get there.”
  • “I go to church every time the doors are open and I even give my 10% to the church. I try to be as good as I can and love everyone else.  That should mean that I will get into heaven if I’ve been good enough.”
  • “I was baptized when I was little and went through catechism so I should skip purgatory and go right into heaven when I die.”
  • “God has blessed me with plenty of money while I’ve been on the earth and I’ve even given a lot of it to the poor. Since I’ve done so well on earth, then God must love me enough to let me into heaven. I’ve never done anything really bad so I should have no problem getting into heaven.”
  • “I don’t think that anybody can really KNOW that they are going to heaven for certain.”
  • “And there are so many more that I can’t list them all, but most of them are similar to these.”

Instead of giving you a bunch of scriptures that refute what I just wrote above, let me ask you a question (or three or four).

What is it that you are relying on to get YOU to Heaven?

If you were to die in the next 10 minutes and you are standing face to face with God and He asks you, “Why should I let you into My Heaven?” — What would you say to Him?

If what you were relying on to get you to Heaven was wrong, would you like to know? If you can say, “YES“, to this question, please read on.

If you can relate to any of these statements on the BAD side here, and your answer happens to be, “NO“, then you can close out of this page and find something else to read (I suggest reading “I’m Dead, Now What?“) because you won’t want to listen to anything that I have to say anyway.

Moving on…

According to the Bible only (I am not making any of this up) since we count the Bible as God’s own Words – He doesn’t just come out and talk to us person to person (yet).

First – Every man is a sinner (breaker of any/all of God’s 10 commandments as set forth in Exodus 20)

James 2:10 –
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law,
and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

Romans 3:10 –
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”

Romans 3:23 –
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Second – The penalty of sin is eternal death!

Romans 6:23 –
“For the wages of sin is death;
but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Third – Eternal Life is offered to us ONLY through Jesus.

John 3:15-16
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.

John 14:6 –
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way,
the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Romans 5:8 –
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Fourth – How do we receive this GIFT of God?

Romans 10:9 – 13 –
9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith,
Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek:
for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

It’s as easy as that!

If you are relying on anything more than what I’ve just described, then you are not putting ALL of your faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and His redeeming blood that was shed to wash away all of our sins.

God doesn’t want us to add anything to this because if we do, it becomes a “works based” salvation. What do I mean by that?  I mean that if there was ANYTHING that we could personally add in order to get to heaven, we would be relying on ourselves to do something special to buy our salvation into heaven.  God won’t let that happen!

Why?  Because, if you or I were able to add anything to that very basic salvation then, whether on this side of heaven or even once we get into heaven (which won’t happen), we would be bragging to our friends or anyone we come in contact with about what WE did to get to heaven. Can you tell me what sin that would be called?

PRIDE!

Proverbs 16:18 –
“Pride goeth before destruction,
and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 –
8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Pride is one of the biggest sins that there is.  If you think about it, most of our sins that we commit on a daily basis are based on pride or at least are stemmed from it.  They can almost all be linked back to pride.  That being the case, and pride being a sin, and heaven can contain NO SIN, we would never be allowed into heaven based on anything that we are able to personally do.

All God wants us to do is to put our faith and trust in Him.  Believe in Him and His salvation-work at Mt. Calvary as all that is needed to get into God’s Heaven.

Doing some of those extra things that you do to get into heaven on your own might make you feel really good, but imagine how much better you could feel if you trust Christ first and then all of those good things that you would have done for your salvation, if there is still any virtue in their accomplishment, you can do them for God’s glory rather than your own.

You see, in Matthew 6:16, Jesus is rebuking the Pharisees of the day for doing works out in the open so that they can look more pious than others, but in verses 17 and 18 He goes on and tells them that they should do their “works” in private so that only God can see them.

Because, in verses 19 through 21 He goes on to say:

19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,
where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
– Matthew 6:19-21

What’s even better than this is in:

John 14:2-3 –
2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions:
if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.”

These verses give me great promise and comfort that when my time on earth is finished, I will have a place of extreme comfort to be able to finally rest.  Jesus ascended into Heaven after His resurrection from the dead so that He could prepare a place for me.  If you put all of the verses together, that tells me that after we are saved from our sin’s penalty in Hell, and I start doing things for Him (not for myself and my own glory), I start to lay up treasures in Heaven.

Those verses indicate that there are many mansions in Heaven and that Jesus is going to prepare a place for me and if I lay up treasures in Heaven, as the other verse says, then, when I get there, I should have, as I picture it, a larger mansion with many treasures in it.

Why would anyone in their own right mind want to, knowing this, please ourselves and others around us for our own vain glory when we have so much more waiting for us when we do things the way God wants us to do them?

I mean, seriously, WHY?

Yet, people do it all the time — WE do it all the time!

Yes, I’m guilty too!  It is the “old man”, the “sin nature”, that is in us that naturally wants to receive the pleasure from the gratitude that we get or the trophy (or equivalent) that we would get for doing something especially well and so that others around us can see how GOOD WE are.  We have to fight that sin nature to make sure that God gets the glory for our accomplishments instead of us – after all, He is the one that gave you the ability to do the thing that got you that glory.

I can speak from experience that if you continue to bring glory to yourself and God has other plans for you and you continue to do your own thing to please yourself rather than do the things that would bring God the glory… He can arrange it to where you are no longer able to do those things that bring you pleasure/glory, but make it so that you have no choice but to turn to Him.

Folks, He will continue to allow bad things to come your way so that little by little you are disabled of the things that bring you that pleasure.  It doesn’t matter what it is.  God has control over all!  He can and WILL do what is necessary to get your attention… until… some day, He may finally determine that you are a hopeless case and you will never turn to Him to do His will and He will bring you home.  That “home” may be Heaven, or it may be Hell, but if you don’t listen to Him and His callings, the outcome may not be the way you would really have liked it.

God wants your talents and your time and abilities – let Him have them.  <I’m pleading with you> Turn your life over to His will.  You will have more peace and joy in your life than you ever imagined.

Yes, you will still face adversity but the difference now is that when you do, you will have a friend with you that sticks closer than a brother, that will NEVER leave you or forsake you and will never steer you wrong by giving you bad advise.  He is the Comforter.

You see, all of those things that I listed at the beginning of this article can still be yours but only if you are serving God.  He will NOT grant those things to you because of your own selfish pleasures. He truly knows the best way to live your life – better than you do.  Let Him have control over your life so that He can show you what He has in store for you.  It may not be what you thought you would be doing, but I guarantee you won’t regret it.

Lord, I ask that you get into the heart of those reading this article right now and convince them of all of the great things that You have in store for them – at the very least, You can take away the heartache and hurt that they are feeling right now.  Give them comfort in knowing that You are now in control of the situations in their life.  Please, bring healing to their hearts and lives.  In Jesus’ Name and for His glory I ask these things, Amen.

If you have received the blessing from this article and or this prayer, please leave a comment (or go to my contact page if you wish to stay anonymous) and let me know that you have received a blessing from this.  I would really love to share your joy so that I can give God the glory as well.  As always, if there is anything you need from a spiritual point of view, please feel free to let me know.

God bless you, –Mark

The Christian Pumpkin

Christian Pumpkin

A 10-year-old little girl was asked by another classmate, “what is it like to be a Christian?”. The girl replied, “it’s like being a pumpkin, God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts open the top and scoops out all of the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc., and then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.”

2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.”

Just like the carved pumpkin in the illustration, once we become saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, we begin looking at life through His eyes. Those things in our lives that don’t belong there, the Holy Spirit convicts us of them and tells us that we need to change in those areas. We need to be aware of what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell us and then DO what He tells us to do.

Have You Ever Considered?

Is there really a heaven or hell?

If you died today and went into eternity, where would you go? Heaven, or Hell?  There is NO in between and if you cannot answer definitively that you would be going to heaven with conviction, you are going to hell!

When asking this question to random people on the street, most people would not be able to tell you one way or the other.  Some would say that they HOPE or THINK that they would go to heaven, but have no reason why or have no basis as to their thought process.

If you stood before the All Powerful, All Knowing, God and He asked you, “Why should I let you into MY heaven?”, what would you tell Him?  If you don’t have any definite reason WHY, you don’t get to go in!

Why would that matter?  Because if you don’t get to go into Heaven, you WILL go to HELL!

Yes. Hell is a very real place.  It is NOT a place where a person will get to party for the rest of eternity. Think about this…

Who is the one that presides over all of today’s parties that are filled with debauchery and drunkenness and sex and filth and drugs and … the list goes on…?  Who is the Father of all of that sinful behavior?  Why, it is none other than the “Father of Lies” himself, Satan – or as he is otherwise known, the Devil.

Why is that important at all?  Because, if Satan is going to be punished for the rest of eternity for revolting against God (along with a third of the angels) by being thrown into the “Lake of Fire” full of pain and sorrow and weeping and gnashing of teeth where a person will want to die but it will never happen, where there will be torment and torture for the rest of eternity (a very long time – NEVER ENDING!)  That is what is in store for Satan and his angels according to Revelations 21.

But, what does that have to do with you?  Well, as it says that Satan et al will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, it also says that death and the grave will be thrown into the Lake of Fire with him (them).

If you were not able to give God the right answer to the question above, then you will be included in the “death and the grave” part of that statement.

There is no purgatory, unlike some might think.  It is never mentioned in the Bible, but rather, it was made up by a pope many years ago as a ploy to get the catholic people to feel sorry for their dead loved ones and the pope allowed the living relatives to give gifts to the church in order to shorten the time that they will have to spend there before they are finally prayed/payed into their heavenly place.  Sorry, it isn’t going to happen that way.  I challenge you to find me one place in the Bible where it says that any of this purgatory stuff will actually happen – you can’t do it because it isn’t there.

Back to the important topic at hand… Where are you going to spend eternity?

Friend, if this were not important, do you really think that I would be wasting my valuable time talking to you about this?  In fact, in God’s eyes, this is the most important topic in the world!

You see, God desires more than anything in this world to have you spending eternity with Him in His heaven.  In fact, since heaven is a sinless place and we humans are very sinful beings, we are not going to be allowed in to God’s heaven the way we are.  In fact, you could be the absolute best role model on the face of the earth but you would still be far from the perfect being that would be required to enter God’s heaven.

See, God knew this ahead of time (He knows everything from eternity past to eternity future – even the stuff that hasn’t happened yet), that is why He devised a plan to provide a substitute sacrifice for your atonement of your sins.  What does that mean?  As we have determined in the last paragraph, we are not good enough to get into God’s heaven, so the alternative is only to go to Hellllllllll!

God’s substitute sacrifice happened to be God the Son – the Second Person of the Godhead out of the “Trinity” (that is discussed in another post),  You see, God the Father was going to send His Son down to live with man for an honest-to-goodness sinless lifetime.

He started with the immaculate conception when the Holy Spirit implanted the seed that was to be Jesus within Mary’s womb.  No, it’s not what you think – contrary to what some religions believe, there was no sexual intercourse that occurred between God and Mary or an angel and Mary.  Mary was a virgin before conception and continued to be a virgin until Jesus the Christ was finally born. After that Mary and Joseph produced a very healthy family in the conventional manner known to man and woman.

Jesus’ mission on earth was to be born as a man-child, to be raised in the normal Hebrew manner, being taught the scriptures that they had up to that time (Moses’ writings and the prophets).  He frequented the temples where he would debate the scriptures with the priests and pharisees, usually ending up with Him teaching them rather than them teaching Him.  He would literally sit with them for days (and we get upset when the pastor of our churches takes more than an hour for a sermon).

He would live out a normal life as a child developing into a man – the only difference is that He was tempted in every sense of the word, just as we are now, but rather than succumbing to the temptations in front of Him, He remained clean and perfect and without sin.  You see, only a sinless, perfect sacrifice could take our place in death.  The death that was the penalty for the one sin that we have committed – yeah, right; I know that you’ve sinned many more times than once.

As a slight side note:

I’m sure you are familiar with the 10 commandments that are referenced in Exodus 20.  Among those are: killing, adultery, idolatry, lust, envy, putting any god in front of the only One and True God, disobeying your parents. Did you also realize that the Bible also tells us that if you were to even think in your heart about any of these commandments to break them, you are guilty of breaking that commandment.  In fact, it goes further and says that if you are guilty of one, you are guilty of all of them.

According to that statement, where does that put you?  Did you know that you are surrounded by a group of mass murderers?  That might sound a bit comical, but in God’s eyes it is totally true!  And, as we established earlier, the penalty of any sin – regardless what sin it might be – is DEATH!  This doesn’t mean that you die and then that is it.  NO! That could not be further from the truth.  Rather, when we die physically, our bodies might be buried or cremated or whatever your preference might be, but someday there is going to be a resurrection.  In fact there is going to be two resurrections. One for the ones that are truly on their way to Heaven and the other will be for those who will be thrown into the Lake of Fire with Satan.

As I said, Satan is not the ultimate party DJ, although he might be the loudest of the screams of pain that will be emanating from the pit of hell.  This trip to hell is not going to be a vacation.  It will not be a party with 72 virgins (or however many they think they will get).  In fact, even though, as the name depicts, “Lake of Fire”, it isn’t going to be like it is here on earth where when something encounters fire of differing temperatures, it will be consumed and that is that – no more existence! In fact, the Bible says that it is a place of eternal torment, where the thirst is not quenched and the “worm dieth not” – you’ve just become a worm….

What is my point in telling you all of this morbid stuff?  You see, we only seem to think that it is morbid because it is depressing since all we want to do while we are on this earth is to make lots of money, have lots of fun, travel, even have as much sex as possible (I only say that because it is true).

The thought of interrupting our plans of doing all of this to just stop and turn around and start making dramatic changes in our lives and start actually following Jesus and doing the things that are commanded us to do in the Bible – I can’t list them all here.

The main thing is that we were not put on this earth, much less to become a Christian, but to serve ourselves and make our existence on this ball of dirt to please our own desires and pass into eternity to be punished in hell for not serving God.

Why do we need to serve God so badly?  Many years ago in the Garden of Eden, God created two beautiful humans that were sinless and faultless and naked without shame.  Why did He create them?  He wanted to have some intelligent companionship that WANTED to be with Him.  And He even gave them a choice of being with Him or death if they ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Satan tempted them, they gave in to his temptation and they eventually died.  The worst part of it all was that they didn’t only die physically but they also died spiritually – and that is why we are put on this earth.

I know that this world has a way of sugar-coating evil to make it look like it is fun – and it may be, but that fun wears off after a while and then there are penalties and consequences that must be paid. These payments may be in the form of a traffic ticket fine or you may do something that requires you to have a physical impairment for the rest of your life, or even worse yet, someone else might have that impairment or even lose their life.  Or, your penalty may only be the eternal penalty of death in hell.

Friend, if you couldn’t tell God why He should let you into His heaven, you need to get this taken care of between you and God.  Please, get on your knees before Him and beg for Him to forgive you and that you want to receive the gift that Jesus is willing to give you of eternal life in heaven with God and then give your life over to God to let Him use you to help show others about how God wants them to go to heaven too.

You know, you could walk away from reading this and go back to doing the same old sinful things, but God has a much bigger plan for you. And, trust me when I say to you, that being in God’s service and doing the things that God wants you to do, you could never get more joy and happiness from anything else that this world has to offer you.

In John 14, Jesus tells us:

John 14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

What many people don’t quite grasp about being a Christian is that even though Jesus is not walking this earth right now, He will be coming to get us soon so that we can spend eternity with Him.  He said that this is a word of encouragement that in His Father’s house (Heaven) are many mansions – these mansion (of whatever sort they might be) are made for us!  I don’t see these being apartment buildings or condos, but mansions!  He is going, at that time until He comes back, to be preparing these places for us.  We get our very own mansions.  These aren’t time shares either – we aren’t just buying a week or a year out of eternity to be there.  He continues and says that He is going to come back again and get us and take us to where He lives (Heaven) so that we can be with Him as He intended for mankind in the first place.

In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul is talking to the Thessalonian church.  They were concerned that they would never get to see their loved ones again that had passed into eternity before them.  He tells them this:

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18:

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Brothers, I don’t want you to be ignorant (or unknowing) about those who have died already, that you don’t weep and feel like you will never see them again like those who are unsaved do (they have no hope of eternal life).  If you truly believe that Jesus died and rose again, then you will see them again if they were saved when God brings them with Him.  Paul speaks this by the authority of the Lord, that those of us who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord will not keep this from happening to those who have already died.  Verse 16; For the Lord Himself (not angels or Michael the archangel) will come down from the heavens with a SHOUT, with the calling of the archangel and with the trumpet sound of God, Himself: and at that point, faster than we can even imagine, the dead that had been saved before they died, will rise to meet Him in the clouds: then the rest of us (who have been saved up to this point) will be caught up (modern term is “raptured”) into the clouds to meet them all even including the Lord – or Christ – and from that point on, we will always be with the Lord!  Because of this, brethren, comfort each other with these words.

How much more beautiful could you imagine it?  If you want a wonderful description of the “New Jerusalem”, you should check out Revelation Chapter 22. … No more sorrow, no more pain … I can’t wait!

My friends, the point in this article is not to, necessarily, get you saved, but to try to light a fire under you to sense the urgency of making sure that anyone and everyone that you come in contact with in the future, that you spend a few minutes and ask them what lies in store for them in eternity and give them the Gospel news that they could spend eternity in heaven with Jesus – and you and me.

Consider this …

… the cashier at the local grocery store is checking your groceries out and all you have to do is ask them that if they died today, would they go to heaven?

… the waitress at your favorite restaurant may have a car accident on the way home from work and end up in hell because you didn’t share Jesus with her.

… the friend you have had since childhood that has never accepted Christ as their personal Savior and you may be the last person that they get a chance to hear it from.

… maybe your parent(s) have never heard God’s plan of salvation and you are just the person that they need to hear it from so that they can make that final decision for Christ.

Remember that we, as Christians, are not out there to twist arms of everyone that we know and force them into a decision.  All we are required to do is tell them what God’s Word has to say about their eternal future.

Some sow the seeds; some water the seeds; but God makes them grow. Occasionally, we have the distinct pleasure of actually leading someone to Christ and verifying with them that they are on their way to heaven with you.  Even if you don’t get to do that, you – if you have done your duty – have done your duty.  Just present God’s Word to them.  If you need help knowing what to share with them or how to do it, there are quite a few different approaches listed in the “Salvation” section of my blog site here – or you can follow the links that I supply to you below.

Christian, I really hope that this has made you think about how you can spread the Gospel.  The time is getting near when the Lord is going to come back for us and we don’t want to have to stand before Him and try to give Him excuses about why we didn’t do our job and why, now, that person is in hell.

God bless you and your soul-winning efforts.  If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below or you can go to my Contact page to contact me privately.

Behold Our King!?!

In a society today, where, day by day, it becomes more and more apparent that the world as we know it is almost a thing of the past, and we have wars happening around the middle-east and Africa and various countries’ economies have failed, it makes us wonder, “WHY?”

It really doesn’t matter what part of the world you live, you should still be able to see and/or feel some of it happening around you – and maybe to you (I’m sorry).

Normally I would be happy to tell you that I live in the United States of America, but it is seeming more every day that the good ole USA is in the midst of collapse as well.  There are Major cities whose economies have tanked and they have gone bankrupt – who ever heard of a city going bankrupt anyway?  Never in the history of the United States has that ever occurred and then our federal government is giving them money so that they don’t get wiped off the face of the earth – and this has happened more than once in just the last year or so.

There are earthquakes happening all over the globe at a rate that far surpasses written history and with that volcanic activity has increased as well.  We are hearing of major volcanoes that, if they erupt, will decimate or smother anything within a thousand mile (or so) radius.

We, here in the U.S.A., being a democratic society, have elected a president, senate and law-makers that, in the last 5 years, have quadrupled our national debt; being at this time over $17 Trillion and counting.  The “elected” are required to debate amongst themselves to try to come up with a balanced budget every year – there hasn’t been a balanced budget in the last 5 years.  Now, they have forced a healthcare system upon the people that is going to end up throwing our society into a tailspin and the economy of the U.S.A, will tank as well.  Our national credit rating has been downgraded to the point that we are almost in a position of becoming a second-world country.

What does any of this have to do with a king which I named in the heading?

Nearly (in round numbers – don’t take me to task on this) five thousand years ago the Children of Israel had been ruled by a God that they couldn’t see where all of the other societies around them were ruled by kings that they have chosen.  Leading up to this, the Children of Israel started complaining to Samuel about this and began demanding that they be allowed by God to elect a king.

Side Note:
Does it make any sense to you that they would have to go through a “prophet” of a “God” that had been ruling them for hundreds of years to this point to ask permission to be able to elect a king?  I didn’t think so, but the story goes on…

Finally, the Lord of Israel let them have their way.  Samuel was on the Lord’s side and about as fed up with the people as God.  We pick up the conversation (a bit one-sided) at that point – Samuel speaking:

1 Samuel 12:13 -16:
“Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.
14 “If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:
15 “But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.
16 “Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.”

Are you watching?  Earlier I told of many things happening around the world.  If those of you reading this are from another country, I pray that you will put this into the context of what is going on around you, but, for the majority of my readers, living in the U.S.A. I will keep it a bit more personal and right in front of your face.  Here are a list of some of the things (I wish I could list them all) that lead to our moral and societal breakdown:

  • United States of America originally founded on Biblical principles giving us freedom OF religion
  • Now people are trying to have freedom FROM religion with a “totally” God-less society
  • Women’s Liberation – burning of the bras
  • Introduction of Rock and Roll – British Invasion
  • Woodstock
  • Equal rights movement – Martin Luther King Jr. and the black/white revolution
  • Moral infidelity reaches the White House (not that it had never been there before but it was made popular through popular media) with John F. Kennedy
  • Vietnam/Korea conflicts that we really didn’t belong in and leading to others around the world – riots rampant at home in the States
  • Charles Manson became the first serial killer “heard around the world” which increased crimes and severity of crimes around the world
  • Gay Liberation – leading to increase of immorality
  • Impeachment of Nixon and Watergate
  • Pornography becomes popular through magazine and video media
  • Increased acceptability of teen and illegitimate pregnancies
  • Major drugs become popular and in some cases legalized/taxed
  • The 1980’s brought in Glamour and Punk Rock producing a heightening level of “acceptance” and “toleration”
  • Beginning of being able to sue in a court of law individuals and companies reducing the sense of responsibility of one’s own personal actions
  • Iran takes US captives and Reagan was instrumental in getting them back, as a result terrorism breaks out and an outbreak of Islam/Muslims and their terrorism
  • Outbreak of AIDS and other major epidemics leading to scientific development of germ warfare
  • Taking the Bible and Prayer out of our public schools
  • Abortions are popularized and legalized – Planned Parenthood (partially funded by US government)
  • Beginning of airline terrorism – heightened security needed around the world
  • Terror hits at World Trade Center (the first hit in the garage) then the Oklahoma City bombing and then the 9/11/2001 Twin Towers World Trade Center/Pentagon and Pennsylvania attacks
  • Divorce becomes readily acceptable among couples also making couples living together without getting married just in case it didn’t work out for them also creating single-parent families more prevalent
  • Personal computers become a norm in most households
  • Advent of the internet and readily available of all types of information, good or bad
  • Lesbian/Gay/Bi-sexual/Transgender lifestyle acceptable and even promoted in our public schools
  • Rampant availability of pornography on the internet
  • Escalation of movie ratings, leading to higher and higher ratings needed, then television ratings needed, then more and more nudity acceptable on TV – glorifying violence and sexuality
  • Sex education in school health classes – now being taught to kindergarten students 5-6 years old (really?)
  • 10 Commandments being removed from our courthouses and oaths not sworn on the Bible
  • The word “God” being removed from our pledge of allegiance and currency

If you’ve been through the Bible much, especially if you’ve read how it all ends, you will realize that this world really is going to end and, in the end, there will be only two kinds of people: those that end up in God’s heaven and those that end up in hell/Lake of Fire.  It is not a fairy tale or a joke.  There have been thousands of Prophecies that had been told of in the Bible and historically they have been fulfilled, all but a few. That’s right, the ones that deal with how things end up – how the world ends.

There is some hope though.  Later in that chapter of first Samuel it gives this condition for us to have God’s favor provided we have accepted His free gift of salvation as indicated in the New Testament (remember that 1 Samuel is part of the Old Testament):

1 Samuel 12:24-25:
24 “Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
25 “But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.”

That is pretty cut and dried.  We run the risk of being consumed as a country or personally.

If you haven’t accepted Christ as your personal Savior and accepted His free gift of salvation, I strongly suggest that you do.  If you would like to find out more about it please click here.

Is Your Bible Version The Only One That Has God’s Word In It?

DOES YOUR BIBLE ONLY,

CONTAIN GOD’S WORD?

King James Version of the Bible

Words by Jim Finn from the blog: “Thoughts of an Old Man”
July 2, 2013    by Jim Finn
“The words of the LORD are pure words:
as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Thou shalt keep them, O LORD,
thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

Psalm 12:6-7
The above says His WORDS, not His thoughts. It says we have God’s pure Word today. For every generation. Even for English-speaking people. His Word is not only here, His Word is not hidden. It is for every generation. It is in the open so ALL can read.
”Heaven and earth shall pass away:
but my words shall not pass away.”
Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33

Not just His thoughts but His Words. What is the Bible? It is not the words of men but the Word of the Almighty God, who is the Creator of the world. The human penmen were employed of God to write His very words.

When we say it was given by inspiration of God, we mean that God Himself gave us His own words. That is why we use the terms verbal and plenary to describe what it is. Verbal has to do with His actual words. It is not just His ideas or concepts, but His words. When we say plenary, we mean inspired fully. It is not somewhat of God with the rest of it being man-made. It is in every sense a God-made Book.

So let us sit up and take notice. This Book I hold in my hands is God’s Book. It is the word-for-word, precisely expressed revelation of God.

Is the King James Bible the Word of God?
Absolutely! Let us stop the quibbling. Either you have the Word of God or you do not. If your Bible is the Word of God, then you have something totally unique and very, very special.

What is your problem? Why do you feel the necessity to dismember, dissect and dilute the text? Why can you not just say, “My Bible is the Word of God; I believe it, I trust it and I honor it to the fullest?” Shelton Smith

A KJB critic told me just yesterday that God’s Word is locked up in New York City and Israel. Really? God preserved His Word but sees fit to lock it up?

What about versions of Gods Word?

Each version, and in the English-speaking world there are over 400 versions, the Words are different. God told us in Deuteronomy and Revelation not to add to or take away from His WORD. Yet in most of the versions there are over 60,000 Words removed. [NASB, NIV, NAS etc.]

Has God Preserved His Word in the English Language?

The short answer is YES! Not only has He done so in the English language but the original manuscripts were written in 3 completely different languages. [Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek] We no longer have any of the original manuscripts, yet God said He would Preserve His Word. Did He ever one time say that His Word would only be preserved in the original languages? NO HE DID NOT! WE HAVE HIS WORD TODAY!

Why Do We Not Use Other English Bibles?

  1. “Since God has preserved His Word for us, when two different Bibles say two different things, it poses a major problem. If they are different, at least one of them is incorrect. I simply do not want my Bible to be a source of confusion.

  2. “In the second place, there is a logistics problem. Almost all English Bibles which have come into being in the past 125 years are based on the Westcott-Hort texts. The Westcott-Hort texts are frankly spurious texts in that they have been tampered with. Scrivener, a contemporary of Westcott and Hort, produced a Textus-Receptus New Testament Greek text in which he documents that Westcott and Hort changed the New Testament text 9,970 times. They amended! They emended! They deleted! They added things! They literally pilfered the Greek text. It is therefore my conclusion that no matter how sincere or how skilled the translators, if you have them working with a bad text, you will come out with a bad English version.

  3. “In almost all cases when someone produces a new English text, his motivation for doing so is either bias or bucks! That is, he either has a doctrinal agenda he is trying to accommodate or he is trying to make a dollar. In some instances, it has been bias and bucks!

  4. “If you do not have a Bible that is your standard text, the consequences are going to be costly. Where there is not a standard text, the preacher and the people are never quite sure of anything. If they are sure, they do not know why they are. The problem is, they do not have a Bible to which they can turn with confidence and certainty. In the absence of an authoritative Bible, the people will not become strong Christians. They will drift and shift because necessity for an authoritative text that is, in fact, the Bible!”      Shelton Smith

Some say other versions are easier to understand; What does God say about understanding the Bible? Does it point to languages as a barrier?

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
2 Corinthians 4:3

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:
for they are foolishness unto him:
neither can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned.”
1 Corinthians 2:14

“There are those that desire God’s Word to be put into street language. It is not street language, it is God’s Holy WORD.  What About “Correcting the Text?” None of us who love the Bible and believe that God has preserved His Word for us are in the business of “correcting the text.” We believe the text! We honor it! We hold it to be trustworthy in detail, so “correcting” it is not what we are about.

“However, let me quickly say that there is nothing “corrective” about defining words, explaining the text, and in general, getting at the intended sense of what it says. “Correct” the text we do not do, because we believe it is already correct. God in His omniscience and by His omnipotence has first provided His Word and has now preserved it for each generation.” Shelton Smith

If you say that the KJB is not 100% accurate, you then have the duty to state and explain which version is 100% accurate. To say otherwise is the same thing as saying, “you do not have a perfect Bible”. If you say the KJB is not perfect or that there is no perfect Bible, you then must admit that we do not have God’s perfect Word and that it has passed away. Are you then willing to stand up and say the Bible is not God’s Word but only perhaps contains Gods Word?

I am proud to say that the Bible I hold in my hand is the very Word of God. Gods pure and perfect WORD! DON’T MESS WITH GODS PURE WORD! YOU DO NOT HAVE GODS PERMISSION TO CORRECT OR CHANGE GODS WORD.  More later as I recall………………..

Revelation 22:18-19
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.”

Christian’s Core Beliefs – At A Glance

Please notice that this “At A Glance” page is only an abbreviated version of what we will go into detail about with future posts.  Its sole purpose is to give an interested party more of an immediate idea as to what ChristiansAreUs.com stands for and Biblical references as to why we believe it.  The in-depth articles that follow will go into a more detailed reason as to why we believe it.

If you happen to have any preliminary questions regarding any of these items or something else regarding our beliefs, please feel free to send them to us through this link.  Also keep in mind that there will, in all likelihood, be more articles to be found in the posts section than what you will find here, but this will give you a good overview.

AT A GLANCE

I.     WE BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD.

We believe the King James Bible is the purest, most perfect, and preserved word of God for the English language.  We believe that it is the verbally (every word) and plenary (completely) inspired revelation of God to man. We believe that it is inerrant, infallible, fully God-breathed, altogether sufficient, and forever settled in Heaven.  We believe that it is absolute truth and therefore is the final authority for all matters of faith, practice, doctrine, conduct, and life.  Since the Bible was written supernaturally by Holy Spirit guided men, we believe that it does not only contain or convey the Word of God, but actually IS the very Word of God. We Believe the Bible is the incorruptible seed that endureth, liveth, and abideth forever.  We reject any version that adds to or subtracts from the King James Bible and consider it to be corruptible seed.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Psalm 12:6-7; Psalm 119:89; Psalm 19:7-11; Matthew 4:4; Proverbs 30:5-6; 2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Revelation 22:18-19; John 17:17; 1 Peter 1:23-25.

II.     WE BELIEVE THAT THE GOD OF THE BIBLE IS THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD.

We believe that there is only one true God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  We believe in the Trinity of the Godhead.  We believe that these are three distinct persons, yet each is equal in power, glory, perfection, and desires.  We Believe that each person of the Godhead is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: John 17:3; 1 John 5:20; Matthew 28:19; Genesis 1:26; 1 John 5:7; Psalm 147:5; Psalm 139:7-10; Jeremiah 32:27.

A.     GOD THE FATHER

We believe that God the Father is perfect in His holiness, infinite in His wisdom, and measureless in His power.  We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all that come through Jesus Christ.

Supporting Verses include but are not limited to: Matthew 6:9; John 5:23-24; Luke 12:30; Matthew 11:25.

B.     GOD THE SON

We believe that Jesus Christ IS God the Son.  He is God come in the flesh.  We believe in the Deity of Christ, that He is true God.  We also believe in the humanity of Christ, that He is true man.  We believe that He is the Son of God.  We believe in the miraculous virgin birth of Jesus Christ.  We believe that Jesus Christ lived an entirely perfect and sinless life while on this earth though tempted in all points like as we are.  We believe in the vicarious (substitutionary) death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.  We believe that Christ rose bodily from the grave after three days, conquering death.  We believe that Jesus ascended bodily up into heaven and now sits on the right hand of God the Father, making intercession for His children.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Hebrews 1:8; Hebrews 4:15; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 53:5; Luke 1:35; Romans 4:25;1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 9:24; Isaiah 7:14; John 1:1-2, 14.

C.     GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe the Holy Spirit is a person, possessing all the attributes of Deity.  We do not believe that He is the author of confusion concerning the tongues movement of this church age.  We believe the Holy Spirit Regenerates, indwells, and seals the believing sinner who trusts Christ as his Savior.  The believer does not get more of the Holy Spirit but the Holy Spirit more of the believer.  The Holy Spirit convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment.  His ministry is the testimony of Jesus Christ, not the testimony of Himself.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: 1 Corinthians 14:33; 2 Corinthians 1:22; Titus 3:5-6; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Galatians 5:22; John 14:16-17; John 16:8.

III.     WE BELIEVE THAT THE GENESIS ACCOUNT OF CREATION IS THE TRUTH.

We believe creation was a direct act of God, literal days, instantaneous, and miraculous.  We believe that God created all things with the power of His Word.  We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God. We reject all theories of evolution and science falsely so-called.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Genesis 1:1, 26-27;  John 1:3; Psalm 33:6, 9; 1 Timothy 6:20.

IV.     WE BELIEVE THAT MAN IS TOTALLY DEPRAVED.

We believe that man was created in the image of God, and by choice fell into sin and death.  Hence, every person is sinful and under condemnation to eternal judgment. Man is wicked, corrupt, and are all under sin.  All men are universally sinful both by nature and choice.  Because of this, all are alienated from the family of God, without excuse, under the righteous judgment and wrath of God, and has within himself no possible means of salvation.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to:  Genesis 1:27; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10-12, 23; Romans 1:19-20; Romans 5:12-14; Romans 6:23; Psalm 51:5; 1 John 1:8-10.

V.     WE BELIEVE THAT SALVATION IS BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH.

We believe that the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ is the only basis for salvation.  No man cometh to God except through His Son.  We believe salvation is a free gift of God, neither merited nor secured in part nor in whole by any virtue or work of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe there is no possible way of salvation outside of Jesus Christ and His shed blood. We believe that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner but his own depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel. We believe that anyone who accepts Christ as their personal Savior is eternally secure.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: John 3:14-18, 36; Romans 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 16:31; Titus 3:5-6; John 10:27-30; 1 John 5:12; John 14:6.

VI.     WE BELIEVE THAT HEAVEN IS REAL.

We believe that Heaven is a real, literal, physical place.  We believe that Heaven is a place of indescribable beauty and glory.  We believe that Heaven is the final eternal dwelling place of all the saved and that anyone who trusts Christ will live in blessedness with God there forever.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Revelation 21:1-27; John 14:1-3; Matthew 25:46; Romans 6:23.

VII.     WE BELIEVE THAT HELL IS REAL.

We believe that Hell is a real, literal, physical place.  We believe that Hell is a place of indescribable torment and punishment.  We believe that Hell is the final dwelling place of all the lost and that those who reject the Gospel will burn in the fires of this horrible place without God forever.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to:  Luke 16:19-31; Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:14-15; Romans 6:23.

VIII.   WE BELIEVE THAT SATAN IS REAL.

We believe that Satan (also known as the devil and Lucifer) was originally created a holy being who enjoyed heavenly honors, but through pride and wicked ambition rebelled against God.  Satan fell and drew after him a host of angels.  We believe that he is the great adversary of God and His people, the deceiver and god of this present world.  We believe Satan is the author of all false religions and all the power of darkness.  Though he is utterly depraved in character and the leader of all other evil angels and wicked spirits, we believe that he was defeated at the cross of Calvary and that his final doom is certain.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Isaiah 14:13-15; 1 Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:9-11; Revelation 20:10; Ezekiel 28:14-17; 1 John 3:8; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4.

IX.     WE BELIEVE THAT SEPARATION IS SCRIPTURAL.

We believe that both ecclesiastical and personal separation is commanded and taught in the Bible.  We believe that all believers should live in such a manner as not to cause other Christians to stumble.  We believe that Christians and churches should separate themselves from all religious apostasy and all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: 2 Timothy 3:1-5; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 1 Peter 2:9; Romans 12:1-2; Romans 14:13; 2 John 9-11; 1 John 2:15-17.

X.  THE SECOND ADVENT OF CHRIST

We believe in that “blessed hope,” the personal, imminent return of Christ Who will rapture (catch away) His Church prior to the seven-year tribulation period. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Revelation 4:1-3Matthew 24:29-42Acts 1:11Matthew 25:31-341 Thessalonians 4:16-18Revelation 19:11-20:15Psalm 89:3-4Daniel 2:31-45Zechariah 14:4-112 Thessalonians 1:10Titus 2:13Revelation 3:10

XI.  THE CHURCH

1.   We believe that the local church, which is the body and the espoused bride of Christ, is solely made up of born-again persons.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: 1 Corinthians 12:12-142 Corinthians 11:2Ephesians 1:22-23Ephesians 5:25-27

2.   We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Acts 14:27Acts 20:171 Timothy 3:1-13Titus 1:5-11

3.   We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external authority or control.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Acts 13:1-4Acts 15:19-31Acts 20:28Romans 16:1, 41 Corinthians 3:9, 161 Corinthians 5:4-7, 131 Peter 5:1-4

4.   We recognize water baptism and the Lord’s Supper as the Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church in this age.

Supporting verses include but are not limited to: Matthew 28:19-20Acts 2:41-42Acts 18:181 Corinthians 11:23-26

Understanding Our Core Beliefs As Christians

“Shrek the Sheep”

Shrek the Sheep

This is Shrek the sheep. He became famous several years ago when he was found after hiding out in caves for six years. Of course, during this time his fleece grew without anyone there to shorn (shave) it. When he was finally found and shaved, his fleece weighed an amazing sixty pounds. Most sheep have a fleece weighing just under ten pounds, with the exception reaching fifteen pounds, maximum. For six years, Shrek carried six times the regular weight of his normal fleece… Simply because he was away from his shepherd.

This reminds me of John 10 when Jesus calls Himself a shepherd, and His followers are His sheep.

Maybe it’s a stretch, but I think Shrek is much like a person who knows Jesus Christ as savior but has wandered. If we avoid Christ’s constant refining of our character, we’re going to accumulate extra weight in this world—a weight we don’t have to bear.

When Shrek was found, a professional sheep shearer took care of Shrek’s fleece in twenty-eight minutes. Shrek’s sixty pound fleece was finally removed. All it took was coming home to his shepherd and the shepherd took care of the rest.

Christ can lift the burdens we carry, if only we stop hiding. He can shave off our ‘fleece’—that is, our self-imposed burdens brought about by wandering from our Good Shepherd.

Matthew 11:28-30
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Christian, let Jesus shear off your extra baggage.  Give it to Him and let Him take control.

Jesus Really Does Love You

I will warn you….go get you a tissue before you read this…then at the end….remember…Jesus really does love you.

Every Sunday afternoon, after the morning service at their church, the Pastor and his 11-year-old son would go out into their town and hand out Gospel tracts. This particular Sunday afternoon, as it came time for the Pastor and his son to go to the streets with their tracts, it was very cold outside as well as pouring down rain. The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said “Okay Dad, I’m ready.”

His Pastor Dad asked, “Ready for what?

“Dad, it’s time we gather our tracts together and go out.”

Dad responds, “Son, it’s very cold outside and it’s pouring down rain.”

The boy gives his Dad a surprised look, asking, “But Dad, aren’t people still going to Hell, even though it’s raining?”

Dad answers, “Son, I am not going out in this weather.”

Despondently the boy asks, “Dad, can I go — Please?”

His father hesitated for a moment then said, “Son, you can go. Here’s the tracts; be careful son.”

“Thanks, Dad!” And with that he was off and out into the rain. This 11-year-old boy walked the streets of the town going door-to-door and handing everybody he met in the street a Gospel tract. After 2-hours of walking in the rain he was soaking bone-chilled wet and down to his very last tract. He stopped on a corner and looked for someone to hand a tract to but the streets were totally deserted.

Then he turned toward the first home he saw and started up the sidewalk to the front door and rang the door bell. He rang the bell — but nobody answered. He rang it again and again bit still no one answered. He waited but still no answer. Finally this 11-year-old trooper turned to leave but something stopped him. Again, he turned to the door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on the door with his fist. He waited, something holding him there on the front porch. He rang again, and this time the door slowly opened. Standing in the doorway was a very sad looking elderly lady.

She softly asked, “What can I do for you, son?”

With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her world, this little boy said, “Ma’am, I’m sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want to tell you that JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU! I came to give you my very last Gospel tract which will tell you all about Jesus and His great love.” With that he handed her his last tract, and turned to leave.

She called to him as he departed, “Thank you, son! And God bless you!”

Well, the following Sunday morning in church, Pastor Dad was in the pulpit and as the service began he asked, “Does anybody have a testimony or want to say anything?”

Slowly, in the back row of the church, an elderly lady stood to her feet. As she began to speak, a look of glorious radiance came from her face. “None of you in this church know me. I’ve never been here before. You see, before last Sunday I was not a Christian. My husband has passed on, some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this world. Last Sunday, being a particularly cold and rainy day, it was even more so in my heart as I came to the end of the line where I no longer had any hope or will to live.

“So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the attic of my home. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the roof then stood on the chair and fastened the other end of the rope around my neck.

“Standing on that chair, so lonely and brokenhearted, I was about to leap off when suddenly the loud ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought, ‘I’ll wait a minute, and whoever it is will go away.’

“I waited and waited — but the ringing doorbell seemed to get louder and more insistent and then the person ringing also started knocking loudly. I thought to myself again, ‘Who on earth could this be?! Nobody ever rings my bell or comes to see me!’

“There on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I had ever seen in my life! His smile! Oh, I could never describe it to you! And the words that came from his mouth caused my heart, that had long been dead, to leap to life as he exclaimed with cherub-like voice, ‘Ma’am, I just came to tell you that JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU.’

“Then he gave me this Gospel tract that I now hold in my hand. As the little angel disappeared back out, into the cold and rain, I closed my door and read slowly every word of this Gospel tract. Then I went up to my attic to get my rope and chair — I wouldn’t be needing them any more.

“You see, I am now a happy child of the KING, and since the address of your church was on the back of this Gospel tract I have come here to personally say, ‘Thank you to God’s little angel who came just in the nick of time, and by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity in Hell.’

There were now no dry eyes in the church. As shouts of praise and honor to the KING resounded off the very rafters of the building, Pastor Dad descended from the pulpit to the front pew where the little angel was seated. He took him in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.

Probably no church has had a more glorious moment and probably this Universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love and honor for his son, except for one: This Father, God, also allowed His Son, Jesus, to go out into a cold and dark world. He received His Son back with joy unspeakable, and as all of Heaven shouted praises and honor to the King, the Father sat His beloved Son on a throne far above all principality and power and every name that is named. There may be someone, reading this, who is also going through a dark, cold and lonely time in your soul. You may be a Christian, for we are not without problems, or you may not yet know the King. Whatever the case, and whatever the problem or situation you find yourself in, and no matter how dark it may seem, I want you to know that I just came to tell you, “JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU!”

Too Much On Your Plate?

“I found recently with the leaving of a very valuable person (and his wife) from our church, that where it took only one of him to get the jobs done, it now takes 5-7 people to do everything that he did while he was here.
“What I learned in this is that even though God can accomplish His will and deeds with only one person, but when more people have to help to fill in and complete His little tasks, God was using this opportunity to grow the “little” people better so that the church can actually grow and branch out.

The Church's "Big Toe"

“Remember that we are all parts of the body of Christ, the Church, but it does no good for a “tooth” to be bigger than the “big toe”. Even though the tooth might bite and chew really great, the body has a habit of losing its balance because the big toe is too small and can’t give the counterbalance that the body needs.
“Sometimes, we just need to let some others experience the “growth” that you may not really need, or maybe you can spread your wealth of knowledge to someone else so they can grow in their Christian walk.”

True Independence

americaneagleflag

Independence is celebrated on July 4th each year in the United States of America.  Of course this independence was won 200+ years ago, giving us freedom from the oppression of England in that day.

What is Independence?

  • Freedom?
  • Self-determination?
  • Potency?
  • Resilience?
  • Self-reliance?
  • Liberty?
  • Self-governing?
  • Sovereignty?

The United States of America formally declared their independence from England on July 4th, 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

What most people don’t understand is that they are also under the tyrannical reign of none other than Satan himself.  Just because they don’t see him in front of their noses doesn’t mean that he doesn’t exist and doesn’t reign.  The people of the American colonies did not see the king of England.  In fact many of the colonists had never even stepped foot in England, but yet they were under his rule and oppression.  In fact they might, on occasion, even see a British soldier and at times even squads and whole armies of them.

We, no matter where you might live (this applies to you too), don’t see Satan himself or even his soldiers that we would normally call his demons, which are usually in spirit form.  Frequently, most people are influenced by one or more of his demons and some people have even made their bodies the homes of some (one or more) of these demons – we would normally say that these people are possessed by the demons. And, yes, it is very real.  It is not something that was made up in a story book or movie or t.v. show.

Why is this so important?  Because if we follow, or even allow ourselves to be controlled by Satan and his minions, we will follow him to eternal death. Some will call this HELL!

Why is Satan so bad?  Think about what Satan is related to in our own terms today.  What is he known for? He is the “Father of Lies”;  he is behind everything evil and bad.  How far down on the “ruler of bad” does his influence go?  All the way down! Even to the smallest white lie or even a bad thought.

Why should it be so important to us?

You see, Satan is so crafty that he makes bad (henceforth referred to as SIN) look so enjoyable and fun – not to say that all things enjoyable and fun are sins – that most people that do it don’t even think twice about it because it doesn’t seem wrong.

But when you look at the outcome of sin, it always comes out bad, sometimes even to the point of the death of themselves or even someone else.  Immediately, it might seem or even be harmless, but, you see, the evil has already been done.

When a person starts smoking a cigarette it doesn’t kill them.  But maybe, many years later, after that person has smoked all of their life since, one day a doctor tells them that they have lung cancer.  But at the beginning it didn’t seem so bad.  It didn’t seem to hurt anyone.  It did smell up the house quite a bit, so maybe it would be a better idea to smoke outside. Hmm.

He didn’t realize that while smoking obviously causes damage to the lungs, the “bad” that the cigarettes do in the lungs doesn’t stop there. It gets into the bloodstream and it gets into other organs and tissues and starts killing them too.

He didn’t realize that because he smoked, it makes his likelihood to contract any other type of cancer 50% more. In any organ or tissue in his whole body.

He didn’t realize that just the exposure of the smoke to others who might not smoke, increases the other person’s chances of contracting cancer as well as many other diseases (and deformities).  He didn’t even think that he might be hurting someone else at the same time.

I write this passionately because some of this has happened to me, you can read about some of it here.

You see, I may not have total liberty and freedom from the effects of the sins that I have committed in my mortal body, but I have the awesome promise that when I no longer have this human body and my soul lives on in eternity, I will have a beautiful and perfect body (Phil. 3: 21; 1 Cor. 15: 42-44; 1 John 3: 2);  I will experience no pain – at all! (Rev. 21: 4)

I suffer on a regular and constant basis as a result of my sin but it serves as a reminder of the grace of God.

You see, just as sin will eventually lead to death (physical and eternal), eternal life requires a penalty as well.  Because God cannot live in a place where there is sin, and because of the fact that everyone has sinned (Rom. 3: 23; Rom. 3: 10), there is no way that any person on earth – past or present – has lived a perfect and sinless life so that we could warrant entry into God’s presence.

Time for celebration now – God figured out a way that we can get into heaven (His home).  He figured out a way that someone else could take the penalty of sin – death – for us!  What joy!  But who would be able to do that?  It would have to be none other than God Himself.

How could that be?  How would He do it?  It just so happens that God has 3 parts to Him (just like we have 3 parts – body, soul and spirit): God the Father (Who lives in Heaven), God the Son, Jesus (the One that has the physical body); and God the Spirit (the spirit that is in all places at all times).  God determined that He would send His Son to die for us – to take our place in death, so that we could have eternal life.

Jesus, in human form (actually we are in His form, but that is another story), was sent to earth as a baby, to be born of a virgin – Mary.  He was raised by Mary and her husband Joseph until He was around 30 years old all the while Jesus didn’t sin one time – He lived the perfect life that we couldn’t live.  Then Jesus started His ministry years – about 3 years. During which time, He did many miracles such as: Turning water into wine; Healing the sick and disabled people; He raised dead people.  He proved that while He was still man and sinless, He was still God and All Powerful!

But then came the penalty.  Remember that Jesus was sent to earth by The Father to take the penalty for our sins which would be death!

He would have to die for us.

You know, Jesus, being God still, had the ability to call it quits at any time He wanted to while He was still on earth – and with everything that He went through, I would have called it quits early in His life, I think. But He didn’t!  He stuck it out here on earth and dealt with all of the cuts and bruises and all the temptations that we would go through.  But He was still sinless, perfect and still a man!

God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us – so that we don’t have to. (John 3: 15 – 16; Rom. 5: 8)  Could you imagine, willingly handing your only son over to have him blatantly murdered?  There would be no one left to pass on your family name.  All of the love that you have given and received from/to your son… gone – as a human, never to return – forever!

Jesus knew why He was there.  He knew what He had to do.  DIE!

He died in the most horrific, barbaric and painful way that they had at that time – the cross.  Two pieces of good sized trees, cut to go one across the other.

One of the tree poles was longer so that it would stick up in the air and so that they could put it in a pretty deep hole to prop it up. Furthermore, they publicly humiliated Him by forcing Him to lift up His own cross and drag it along the path, up the hill to Mt. Golgotha (meaning: the place of the skull).

Once they got to the top of the mount, they then took His hand and held it to the other piece towards the end and used a spike that was about 9 inches long to drive through his hand and then into the wood so that it wouldn’t pull off.  Then they did the same to the other side, stretching His arms as far apart as they would go.

They took his feet and, using the same kind of nail, drove the spike through both of His feet together and then into the wood.

Since the Jews hated Him, thinking Him to be a heretic and full of blasphemy because He called Himself the Son of God and God Himself, they mocked Him calling Him, “The King of the Jews”.  Because of this, they fashioned a crown out of thorn branches.  The thorns were said to be nearly 2 inches long.  They then put the crown on His head and then shoved it into His scalp as far as it would go.  They then put a sign at the top of the cross above His head that said “King of the Jews”.  They mocked Him and tore His beard out of His face by the clumps.  They gave Him vinegar on a sponge to drink, which, of course, He couldn’t drink or even swallow.  In fact it stung His face in the wounds that had been given Him through His beatings.

After all that, a group of soldiers lifted Jesus, being attached to the cross, up, putting the bottom of the pole into the hole and let it drop – probably a couple of feet – and it fell down.  Then it stopped, ripping and tearing at His flesh on His hands.  In fact, when He hung on that cross, His rib cage was lifted up into a position to where He couldn’t get a breath of air.  He had to push Himself up with His nail-torn feet.  Oh, what excruciating pain that must have been.  And it was for you and for me.

While on this cross, Jesus took upon Himself the weight of ALL of the sins of the world – past, present and future (Is. 53:4, 5; 1 Peter 2: 24). In fact, for a period of three hours, the skies turned dark, like an eclipse except it lasted for three hours (Mark 15: 33). During those three hours, God the Father turned His back from Jesus, likely, because He couldn’t look upon all of that sin.

Mark 15:34 says, “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

After that He said, “It is finished.” Then He bowed His head and died. Soon after He died, the soldiers came to Him to make sure He was dead. Instead of breaking His leg like the other two that He was crucified with, and seeing that He was obviously dead already, they just took a spear and jabbed it into His side and blood and water gushed out.

He was buried in a borrowed tomb with a huge round stone rolled in front of the doorway so that it couldn’t be rolled away without much effort.  In fact, it took two to three men to move it in or out of place.  Once it was in place, the Romans placed 2 soldiers at the tomb to guard it because they had heard that Jesus said that He would rise again after He was crucified, so they figured that if they placed guards there for a few days (He said that it would happen on the third day) to make sure that the disciples didn’t come to rob the grave and make it look like He had risen.

God is so much more powerful than that.  He caused the guards to fall asleep and then God’s angel rolled the stone away from the tomb and Jesus was risen from the dead.  Not because of the angels but because He is God and He caused Himself to be risen from that grave.

Mary Magdalene was the first to come to the tomb to pay her respects to “the dead”, Jesus, and when she got there, she saw that the stone was moved and she looked inside and saw two “men” – actually angels – sitting in the place where the Lord was laid.  They asked her why she was crying and she told them because they had taken her Lord and she didn’t know where they had taken Him.

After that she turned around and there was a man (Jesus) standing at the tomb opening and, Mary supposed that He was the gardener.  He then asked her why she was crying and whom she was looking for.  She asked Him if they had taken Him somewhere and that she would like to know where.

Jesus said to her, “Mary”.  She recognised His voice and said, “Master”! He told her not to touch Him yet because He had not yet ascended unto the Father.

Mary ran and told everyone else – the disciples.  The same evening, all of the disciples were sitting in a room together and the door was closed then Jesus just appeared in front of them and He told them to be calm and not worry.  They recognised Him and He showed them His scars in His hands and feet and his side and they knew that they had seen the Lord. (John 20: 11 – 20).

You see, Jesus was truly God!  If He wasn’t, He couldn’t have raised Himself from the dead just like He told everyone before He died.

The fact of the matter is here, that Jesus did all of this for you and for me. To take our sins away from us so that we are no longer looked at by God as sinners, but as redeemed or bought back by the blood of Jesus.  Jesus’ blood was shed to cover all of the sins of the world, so that God no longer sees them as sin that we are accountable for.  We can now go to Heaven to be with Him when we die.

We are now set free from the sin and the eternal death that goes along with it (Romans 6: 23).  We are now able to be called “Christians”.

But wait!  It doesn’t stop there!

God wants to give us this independence from sin, but He doesn’t just give it to everyone and they don’t know it.  He wants us to come to Him and ask Him for it (Romans 10: 9 – 10; Romans 10: 13).  That is why “everybody” isn’t saved from the eternal death in Hell.  That is why it is so important that I tell you this story.  That is why we, as Christians, have an obligation to spread the Word about Jesus Christ and what He did for us.

You see, that is True Independence!

Just like our soldiers went to war and fought and died (some of them) so that we can have the liberties that we have and the independence from the oppression of an evil dictator, Jesus went to war against sin and the Devil and died – but as He died (and rose again), He won the war against the Devil and paid the price so that we can have independence from the penalty of sin.

Friend, if you have not yet asked Jesus for His salvation, His independence, I urge you to do it right now.  Please, with all sincerity, repeat this little prayer (talking to Jesus) after me:

Dear Jesus, I know that I’m a sinner . . . and I deserve the penalty of death and hell. . . . Jesus, I’m sorry for my sins, . . . and I want you to take away my sins . . . so that I can go to Heaven to be with you when I die. . . . I want you to be the Lord of my life . . . and make me a new and better person . . . so that I can reflect the changes . . . that you have made in my life. . . . and so that I can share the great news . . . to my friends and family and everyone I know . . . so that they can see You in me. . . . Thank you, Jesus . . . for removing my sins from me  . . . so that I can have eternal life. . . . In Your name, Jesus, . . . Amen.

Christian, if you just prayed that prayer with me, I’d like you to just make a comment at the bottom of this page or go to my Decision Made page and just let me know what you have done.  It is something that all of us can rejoice about and we want to rejoice with you about it.  It shouldn’t be anything embarrassing to you to let me/us know about this life changing decision that you have just made that is going to change your life and who you are, for the rest of your life.

The wonderful thing about being a Christian is that when we ask Jesus to take away our sins and to forgive us, He comes in to live in our life (some people even say that He comes in to your heart – same thing) and He will NEVER leave you, no matter what you might do that might displease Him. If you do something again that is a sin, just ask God to take that sin away and forgive you of it, and He will.

Let’s all live a life of True Independence!

In Christ’s Name and in His love,

–Mark
